Dak Prescott may have delivered the best season of his NFL career in 2025, but former NFL All-Pro Braylon Edwards still believes Detroit Lions QB Jared Goff deserves to be ranked ahead of the Cowboys quarterback entering the 2026 season.

The discussion began after Pro Football Focus placed Prescott above Goff in its rankings for the 2026 season. On the Friday episode of the Braylon Edwards Show on Woodward Sports, Edwards said he would have reversed that order.

"He [Prescott] can throw the ball very well, but no," Braylon Edwards said. "Even though Dak Prescott had his best season as a pro last year. Like, what it looked like, he looked like a pro. He looked like somebody I could put more stock and value in. I agree, I would not take him over Jared Goff."

Edwards credited Prescott during the Braylon Edwards show (YouTube @WoodwardSports), saying that he took a step forward, but said Goff remains the more complete quarterback. 

He argued the Lions passer does a better job commanding an offense and consistently making the right decisions. He also called him the "more cerebral quarterback."

Both quarterbacks produced impressive numbers last season. Prescott completed 404 of 600 passes for 4,552 yards and 30 touchdowns. On the other hand, Goff threw for 4,564 yards and 34 touchdowns after completing 393 of his 578 attempts.

Despite those comparable numbers, Edwards believes Goff's decision-making and command of Detroit's offense give him the edge.

The discussion comes as Goff continues to build one of the league's most productive stretches. According to Pro Football Focus, he has thrown for an NFL-best 18,205 yards and 130 touchdowns since 2022.

While Edwards had no hesitation putting Goff ahead of Prescott, not every analyst is as convinced about where the Lions quarterback belongs among the NFL's elite.

CBS Sports analyst believes Jared Goff has already reached his peak

In his latest quarterback tiers for CBS Sports, Bryan DeArdo placed Goff in the "Borderline Stars" category alongside quarterbacks including Dak Prescott, Justin Herbert, Jordan Love, and Brock Purdy.

Explaining the ranking, DeArdo wrote, "Goff appears to have reached his career arc unless the Lions make another deep playoff run."

The assessment comes despite another productive season for Goff under difficult circumstances.

Goff also continued to produce under pressure. He posted the NFL's ninth-best passer rating.

Those performances haven't completely changed how some analysts view him.

Goff is still seen as a quarterback who thrives within structure rather than creating outside of it. Even after leading one of the league's most efficient offenses over the past several seasons.

While analysts remain split on exactly where Goff belongs among the NFL's top quarterbacks, Edwards believes his consistency and command of Detroit's offense still put him ahead of Prescott entering the 2026 season.
