With uncertainty surrounding the Chicago Bears’ dream dome-shaped stadium project, it may now have a timeline for becoming a reality.

As reported by Courtney Cronin of ESPN Chicago, the Chicago Bears’ stadium building project might be shifted to December amid developments around state legislation and environmentalist concerns. 

“I wouldn't be surprised if by like, December, maybe that's how long it takes,” Courtney Cronin said. “The reports about some of the legislation that the Bears are now trying to get through in Springfield…due diligence phase of looking at Hammond and everything.”

With the Bears still not sure which of the four sites they have to choose, the expected timeline of late spring or early summer has already passed.

Based on the previous updates, the Bears had already started off with the soil evaluation at a new Hammond site, it was likely that they could’ve concluded by the summer, but things could stretch to late 2026, per Cronin. 

President and CEO Kevin Warren is trying to pressure ‌Illinois state officials to pass legislation in favor of the Bears, while seeking them to act faster on the deal’s approval.

Cronin believes that the Bears still have real state issues in the land acquisition and the property taxes that actually made them choose the idea of moving out of Illinois. 

With environmentalist concerns around the “toxic wasteland,” Hammond's feasibility has not yet been proven.

Courtney Cronin believes the Bears' stadium project is far from a resolution, and a final stadium decision could come in December or later.

The franchise have started to evaluate another site in Hammond, Indiana.

Bears Continue Evaluating New Stadium Site

As reported by Matt Stefanski and NBC Chicago Staff, the drilling equipment was spotted at a new site in Hammond, Indiana. They likely have evaluating new site in northwest Indiana. 

“This activity is part of the normal site evaluation process as we continue to advance our stadium development project in Hammond,” the Bears representative told the media. “We have an excellent option already in place and continue to assess additional parcels of land in the Wolf Lake region to ensure we place the stadium and mixed-use district in the very best location to serve all of Chicagoland.”

The new potential site is just west of Interstate 90 and a short distance from the Wolf Lake site.

Earlier in June, the Bears announced their decision, after voting, they are now focusing on Hammond, Indiana, for a new stadium, but said a final site and construction timeline have not yet been decided.

For now, the Bears continue weighing every option before making the biggest decision in franchise history.
