The 2026 FIFA World Cup has created a tremendous amount of excitement around the United States. However, one comment from Los Angeles Rams safety Kam Curl has now started a huge debate among NFL fans online.

Curl took to social media to express his displeasure amid reports that NFL players would have to pay full price for World Cup tickets. He argued that it was unfair that league players would have to pay in full since the matches would be hosted by the NFL teams’ stadiums.

“It’s crazy, y’all at our stadium,” Curl said, according to an X post shared by Dexerto on June 19.

The World Cup is already in full swing, and many NFL venues are being used to host matches. Curl’s remark might have been light-hearted, but many fans were quick to disagree, since NFL players earn significantly higher salaries compared to normal citizens.

“Make more money that most of society, but they shouldn’t have to pay full price. Clowns all of em,” one fan wrote.

The backlash faced by Curl has only intensified on social media. Many users argued that the World Cup is amongst the most-sought-after sporting events in the world. They also argued that professional athletes should not be expecting complimentary access.

Kam Curl just signed a three-year, $36 million extension with the Rams this March. Some fans stated that somebody earning so much should not be complaining about the ticket situation.

As the post gained more traction, several fans have mocked the suggestion that stadium ownership or tenancy should entitle players to have tickets at discounted rates.

Fans react to Curl’s take on World Cup ticket rates

Fans were quick to react to the original X post with their own set of reactions. One fan argued the logic behind Curl’s reasoning.

“Imagine McDonald’s employees demanding free Big Macs because they mop the floor,” they wrote.

Meanwhile, another X user was puzzled as to why somebody who was earning so much was questioning the highly-priced tickets.

“Bro makes millions playing a game and is crying about buying tickets to the biggest soccer event on the planet at his own stadium?” one fan commented.

One fan pointed out how the stadium is not actually theirs, as the Rams safety claimed.

“Bro you’re a private contractor that works for a team whose owner also happens to own the stadium you play in. You don’t own the stadium any more than the fans do,” wrote the fan.

However, some fans agreed on Curl’s take and argued how it would actually be more beneficial if certain discounts were provided to NFL players.

"Nah come on. The NFL home team puts a show on for the fans at least they could do is get a discount to their home field stadium," one fan wrote.

Others focused on the impact that watching their favorite athletes attend the World Cup would have on the youth.

“Honestly, it would help the growth of the game if young people saw their favorite stars from other sports attending. They should get free tickets and part of the deal should be mandatory camera time and social media posts. Why not 🤷‍♂️,” another person commented.
