While interacting with Stacey Dales of the NFL Network, former Lions star Calvin “Megatron” Johnson recalled an iconic moment of a fake spike from Matthew Stafford against the Dallas Cowboys, back in 2013, which is widely considered the absolute pinnacle of their era together.

“So I'm still trying to recoup the record lick at the moment. And I see him, it looked like he's going in for a spike, and then he just,” Johnson recalled. “You know…but throws the ball over the goal line. And, you know...least surprised myself, but you know, I knew we were going to get it done.”

As a response to Stacey Dales, he recalled the match when the Detroit Lions played against the Dallas Cowboys on October 27, 2013, at Ford Field, Michigan. 

According to Johnson, it was just 30 seconds left and no timeouts remaining, and the Cowboys were trailing by three points. 

Then, former Lions QB Stafford unleashed a 22-yard laser to Johnson down to the 1-yard line, and right before the end zone, he was tackled.  

This being done, Stafford called in a fake spike to stop the clock, which made the Cowboys players relax, and then he hit the climax.

Instead of going with the spike strategy, he took the snap and dove directly over the Cowboys’ offensive line and scored the game-winning TD with just 12 seconds on the clock.

In the same match, he recorded the second-highest single-game receiving total of 329 yards in NFL history.

During the interview, Johnson also talked about the new Lions drafted Blake Miller as a tackle for the Detroit Lions.

Continuing with his chat with Stacey Dales, Calvin Johnson also talked about the drafting of Clemson’s Blake Miller from the 2026 NFL Draft. 

“We've been able to, you know, address that in the draft, you know, bringing in the Miller from Clemson,” Johnson said. “Big fella, you know, he's going to get, you know, you know, acclimated real soon here, you know, but we need, you know, he needs that.”

With the departure of Taylor Decker during free agency, there is chatter around switching Penei Sewell to‌ left tackle to protect the blind side of Jared Goff.

He refrained from commenting on the move but confirmed that Miller could be the answer to their right tackle problem, assuming Sewell moves to the left tackle. 

With the release of the 2026 NFL schedule, the Lions are all set to go on their NFL campaign to restore their status as a contender for the Super Bowl.
