Entering the 2026 season, the rivalry between the Detroit Lions and the Chicago Bears has gained more excitement thanks to the quarterbacks Jared Goff and Caleb Williams. This time, NFL analyst Dan Orlovsky's discussion about the two players sparked a debate online.
"I would put Goff at one, [Jordan] Love at two," said Orlovsky on the Pat McAfee Show. "And that would be a clear one-two for me. Then I would go Kyler [Murray] at three, Caleb at four. No, you know what? I go Caleb at three, Kyler at four."
Goff will be looking to turn things around after missing the playoffs. Besides the setback, the Lions quarterback wrapped up the 2025 season with 4,564 passing yards, which was second in the league, as well as putting up the 2nd-highest passer rating of his career.
At the same time, Bears quarterback Caleb Williams ended the 2025 season with 3,942 passing yards, which set a new franchise record. He defeated the old record set by Erik Kramer, who threw for 3,838 yards in 1995.
The Lions and Chicago Bears share one of the NFL’s oldest and toughest rivalries. Detroit has enjoyed the upper hand over Chicago in recent years, going 7-3 in the matchup since 2021. The 2025 season was another example, as Detroit swept Chicago and rolled to a 52-21 victory.
Now that their quarterback is ranked behind the rival team's quarterback did not sit well with the Bears fans.
NFL Fans Rally Behind Caleb Williams
The reactions from NFL fans were quick after the clip from The Pat McAfee Show was posted on X. Williams’ fans started to pour in their support.
A fan came up with his own ranking. “We all know it goes 1. Caleb Williams 2. Goff 3. Love 4. Whoever the Vikings start,” the comment read. With three big-time throws, Williams turned in one of the strongest passing performances of his career last season.
Neither Goff nor Williams has an MVP yet, but a fan believes the Bears quarterback will receive one in 2026. “Let the Haters hate. MVP season LOADING,” the comment read. Last season, he had set the momentum with his career-best big-time throw rate at 10%.
Orlovsky caught the heat from the fans. “This guy @danorlovsky7 hates on the bears every chance he gets,” a comment read. Support for Williams dropped after he led Chicago to their first division title since 2018
To another fan, the noise will not break Williams’ morale. “I'm not going to lie, I think all this doubting helps fuel @CALEBcsw. All the noise could be a blessing in disguise to make him grind even more,” he wrote. Another double-digit win season and a repeat division title for the Chicago Bears could put Caleb Williams firmly in the NFL MVP conversation.
