The Minnesota Vikings are one of the teams being linked to quarterback Brendan Sorsby ahead of the NFL Supplemental Draft in mid-July. Some analysts are pointing to uncertainty in the team's long-term quarterback scene.
NFL insider John Frascella recently floated Minnesota as a possible landing spot for Sorsby while discussing the Vikings' current QB room.
“What do we think about the Minnesota Vikings for Brendan Sorsby, potentially?” Frascella wrote on X. “Obviously, JJ McCarthy is a huge question mark for the entirety of his career."
McCarthy's recent struggles have also quietly opened the door for Sorsby. Injuries disrupted his 2024 and 2025 seasons. Meanwhile, his on-field production last year saw a modest 10-to-11 touchdown-to-interception ratio alongside a 57.6% completion rate.
"Kyler Murray is having some early issues navigating the complexities of [HC] Kevin O'Connell's vaunted offensive scheme ... how about Sorsby as a long-term insurance policy in that QB room?” the X post further read.
Frascella's post was tied in part to questions surrounding the Vikings' QB room. He pointed to Murray's adjusting issues with head coach Kevin O'Connell's offense, while McCarthy is still working to establish himself.
That uncertainty has led some analysts to wonder whether Minnesota could explore more quarterback options if a prospect such as Sorsby is available.
Jason Aponte of Round Table Sports also discussed the possibility of Minnesota taking a look at Sorsby, noting that the idea is not as far-fetched as it may initially seem.
“Murray is here for a year on the vet minimum. McCarthy is still looking to prove himself as a consistent NFL quarterback,” wrote Aponte.
According to ESPN's Pete Thamel, Sorsby will enter the supplemental draft after an eligibility battle involving NCAA g******* violations.
Murray signed with the Vikings earlier this March, after playing seven seasons for the Arizona Cardinals. He has a record of 38-48-1 with a 67.1% pass completion for 20,460 passing yards and 121 touchdowns. He missed most of the last season due to a season-ending foot injury.
McCarthy, initially signed as a backup to QB Sam Darnold in 2024, became a starter last season when Darnold joined the Seattle Seahawks.
Before that, Sorsby had been viewed as one of college football's most sought-after quarterbacks. He threw for 2,800 yards and 27 touchdowns with five interceptions in 2025 and added nine rushing touchdowns.
ESPN Analyst Lists Vikings Among Best Fits For Brendan Sorsby
ESPN analyst Ben Solak included Minnesota among the teams that make sense for Sorsby from a football standpoint.
“The Vikings have Kyler Murray secured for only one season and probably want more long-term options beyond J.J. McCarthy,” Solak wrote while outlining potential landing spots for the quarterback.
Solak ranked the Vikings among his top scheme fits for Sorsby, alongside teams such as the Green Bay Packers, Carolina Panthers, Indianapolis Colts, and Atlanta Falcons.
The quarterback's talent continues to be viewed highly around NFL circles despite the circumstances surrounding his supplemental draft entry.
ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported that several executives believe Sorsby is worth a second-round selection, while one AFC executive told ESPN he would have been considered a late first-round prospect in a traditional draft.
NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport also reported that many general managers viewed Sorsby as a first-round talent, even if most believe his realistic supplemental draft value falls somewhere in the second or third round.
Whether Minnesota ultimately submits a bid remains to be seen. Still, analysts believe that, amidst issues around their QB room, Sorsby is a viable option.
