Dan Campbell continues to gain recognition across the league, as the Detroit Lions head coach has now topped a major ranking ahead of the 2026 season. The acknowledgment highlights the growing respect for his leadership and impact.

With the turmoil of controversies around the Detroit Lions, head coach Dan Campbell continues to shine. In the RotoPat’s 2026 NFL head coach rankings, Campbell was ranked 8th among the head coaches of 32 NFL teams. 

Consecutively for the third time, Campbell was ranked among the top 10 head coaches. He was ranked 7th in both the 2024 and 2025 rankings lists. 

For 2026, the leading HC is Sean McVay of the Los Angeles Rams, followed by Andy Reid of the Kansas City Chiefs and Kyle Shanahan of the San Francisco 49ers.

On January 20, 2021, Dan Campbell joined the Motown team as a head coach. He started his coaching career in 2010 with the Miami Dolphins, after playing 11 years of football, and hung up his cleats as a Lion in 2008. 

Since taking over in 2021, Campbell has transformed Detroit into a top contender. His overall record of 53-43-1 (.552) reflects steady progress, but the real impact shows in results.

Since his joining, he has been building records for the Lions. In 2024, his squad recorded the highest wins of 15, while scoring 70 touchdowns and securing 564 points.

Campbell has instilled a new culture in the Detroit Lions that is built on grit, conviction, and collaboration on and off the field. Whenever the time has come, he has taken a tough call. 

In 2026, after last season’s defeat of 9-8, he fired the offensive coordinator, John Morton, and hired Drew Petzing.

Dan Campbell Vision and Plans for Lions 2026 NFL Season

With not being able to make it to the play-off last year, head coach Dan Campbell has expectations for the new roster. 

With the signing of free agents and retaining core talent, he is hoping that the Lions will regain their edge in the upcoming NFL season.

"We had talent, but we had some salty guys, and we were highly competitive...so just getting a little bit of that edge back," Campbell said. 

Recently, the Lions have signed center Cade Mays, Larry Borom, Ben Bartch, backup QB Teddy Bridgewater, cornerback Isiah Pacheco, and many more. 

"I felt like we needed to get younger in some areas," Campbell said.

For the 2026 NFL Draft, the Lions are already looking for developmental prospects. A few collegiate playmakers are being linked with the Lions, like Olaivavega Loane, Carson Beck, Spencer Fano, and many more.
