Amid the pending contract extension for Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs, teammate wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown has opened up about the situation.

The three-time Pro Bowl star hasn't been seen at training camp since it began on July 25 at the Meijer Performance Center in Allen Park, Michigan. Amid Gibbs staging hold-ins, one of his teammates and friends, St. Brown, has shown support for the star.

"He’s still in the building; he’s still at all the meetings and everything," St. Brown said on July 29. "I think the players understand what’s going on. Everyone kind of gets it. It's part of the business, but we're starting practicing, doing our thing."

St. Brown also clarified that the teammates were not surprised by the hold-in, per 97.1 The Ticket. Gibbs is on a four-year, $17.8 million, fully guaranteed contract that also includes a $9.9 million signing bonus.

For every missed practice, Gibbs will be fined $45,000 per day. His contract will expire after 2027, and he will want a big offer this time around, given his performances.

Gibbs has been crucial for the Lions, gaining 3,580 rushing yards, 1,449 receiving yards, and 49 total touchdowns in three seasons since joining as the No. 12 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

While Gibbs continues to wait on the contract extension, the Lions head coach has also spoken up about the situation.

Coach Dan Campbell speaks on the Jahmyr Gibbs contract extension deal

As Gibbs did not attend day one of training camp, head coach Dan Campbell addressed the situation in the post-practice presser.

"You guys know how I feel, how we feel about Gibbs and what the team feels about him, and I’ll leave it at that," Campbell said. “My job is to coach who’s out there right now, and I love the kid, but man, I’ve got a team to coach right now. And listen…at some point here, it’ll get done. It’s going to get done. I’m not even sweating it."

Campbell not only talked about Gibbs' contract but also shed light on another reason Gibbs might not have been at practice. Campbell pointed out that after his conditioning test, Gibbs has been facing back problems.

Nonetheless, Gibbs would be looking for a big offer, considering that the Philadelphia Eagles' Saquon Barkley is the NFL's highest-paid running back, averaging $20.6 million annually.

Meanwhile, Gibbs' market valuation projects his average annual salary at $20.2 million, positioning him to challenge for the title of the NFL's highest-paid running back.
