While appearing on The Insiders with Patrick Claybon and Tom Pelissero, Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown shared how Gibbs has handled the ongoing contract chatter, insisting the star running back remains fully focused on football and helping Detroit win rather than worrying about a new deal.

“I think he's doing great. You know, Jahmyr is a guy that's not too focused on that,” Amon-Ra said. “He's worried about having fun on Sundays….he didn't miss any OTAs. He was there, you know, all OTAs with us. He just loves ball. So, I think Jahmyr is not worried about that stuff.”

Per Spotrac, Gibbs landed a four-year rookie contract with the Lions in the 2023 NFL Draft at $17.84M. Presently, Gibbs is running through his last year of the contract, and according to many NFL pundits, he awaits a massive contract extension.

But as per Amon-Ra, that is not the case for Gibbs. He is laser-focused on keeping up ‌his production for the Lions.

Gibbs appeared in 17 games last season for the Lions. He rushed for 1,223 yards and scored 13 TDs in 243 attempts. Even though the Lions finished the season with a record of 9-8, narrowly missing the playoffs, Gibbs was on his toes.

“He's just worried about, you know, how he can be best for the team, and he's done a great job of doing that,” he added. “So, you know, I'm sure everything's going to be worked out perfectly fine for him and his situation.”

Amon-Ra also added that Gibbs attended all the OTAs during the offseason. As per Tim Twentyman of the DetroitLions.com, the three times Pro-Bowl Jahmyr Gibbs remains the top running back for the Lions during the OTAs.

Twentyman believes that Gibbs would be on the main Lions roster for the Week 1 game.

Although Gibbs isn't focused on a new contract, discussions surrounding his next deal continue to gain momentum.

Where things stand with Jahmyr Gibbs' new deal

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Detroit Lions’ front office is actively considering the idea of giving a contract extension to Jahmyr Gibbs.

"They want to do it," Fowler said about the possible extension. "There's not a lot of progress yet. It's going to take some time."

Fowler believes that his contract extension would break the RB market once declared. He projected that the extension would be around $20M and more per year.

He is not the only one. Previously, ESPN’s Adam Schefter has also reported that sometime in the summer, the fans could expect the declaration of the contract extension.

Presently, Saquon Barkley dominates the RB market, but Gibbs' potential extension could challenge that.

Amid ‌contract extension talks and the departure of David Montgomery, RB Jahmyr Gibbs has the Lions' offense covered.
