The NFL has moved one of the Detroit Lions' home games from the 2026 season to Germany.
Just days after the announcement, Amon-Ra St. Brown hinted that he might not play for the U.S. National team when the time comes.
In the latest episode of the St. Brown podcast, the Lions star hosted the NFL Commissioner. There, the two were discussing the flag football event happening at the 2028 LA Olympics. St. Brown said:
"Yeah, people ask me all the time, like, what team are you going to play for? I tell them, you know, I'll probably play for Team Germany. The USA is already loaded. I got all the guys. Let me just go somewhere else and spread the talent."
Born in California, NFL star Amon-Ra St. Brown holds dual American and German citizenship through his German-born mother, Miriam. This background makes him eligible to represent either nation in the 2028 LA Olympics, provided he meets qualification rules.
The U.S. team is likely to take only four to five wide receivers in the Olympics. As players like Justin Jefferson, Ja'Marr Chase, Puka Nacua, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba are already there, the competition is tough.
Flag football competition at the 2028 Olympics will take place roughly from July 15-22, 2028, with the finals on July 21 (men) and July 22 (women).
It will be interesting to see which team Amon-Ra St. Brown chooses. For now, he is excited to play the 2026 NFL game in Germany.
Amon-Ra St. Brown Is Happy to Have the NFL Game In Germany
The Detroit Lions have officially announced a 2026 NFL regular-season game in Munich, Germany, as part of the NFL International Series. For St. Brown, this is a dream come true.
“It has been a dream of mine to play a game in my mother’s home country of Germany since coming to the league,” he said. “I cannot wait to play in front of the incredible fans that I’ve gotten to know through my visits and football camps in the country."
His mother broke the news to him in a video the Lions posted. This will NFL's third game at FC Bayern Munich Stadium in Munich.
The city hosted the NFL’s first game in Germany in 2022 and another in 2024. The opponents will be confirmed later.
