The Detroit Lions are once again among the favorites heading into the new season. This comes despite a disappointing 2025 campaign that saw them miss the playoffs.
One reason for the renewed excitement is Kelvin Sheppard's defense. Sheppard is entering his second season as defensive coordinator, and expectations are high after his first year in charge.
Fortunately, the players appear confident in their coordinator. Aidan Hutchinson recently praised Sheppard and explained how his approach has helped him improve.
"Shep really took a step up, I feel. His ability to adapt and to grow as a play caller, it's really fun to witness. Even throughout last season, I know I talked about that, he's putting us in the best positions possible, and he gives me the freedom that I need to excel as a player, and really that's all I can ask for out of a coordinator, but in terms of as a defense, it feels connected right now for sure."
That's quite the endorsement from one of Detroit's biggest stars. Fans will now hope Hutchinson and Sheppard's defense can deliver their best versions this season.
If that happens, the Lions could have a real chance to challenge for a Super Bowl.
Aidan Hutchinson thinks it's about f***** time the Lions won a Super Bowl
Hutchinson desperately wants to win a championship in Detroit. The defensive end knows the Lions have come close before, but they have repeatedly fallen short.
Then came the disappointment of 2025. Hutchinson discussed those struggles during a recent golf outing with Jared Goff, making it clear that he wants this season to be different.
The Lions have the talent to compete. They now need to finish the job when it matters most.
