“A Lion Without Teeth” — Dan Campbell Hit With Blunt Assessment After Lions’ Loss

Detroit fell 41-31 to the Buffalo Bills in Week 2 after surrendering 21 points early. The Lions fought back, but Buffalo maintained control and handed Detroit its first defeat of the new season.

Meanwhile, NFL analyst Emmanuel Acho questioned Dan Campbell's performance since Ben Johnson left Detroit. Speaking on Speakeasy, the former linebacker argued that Campbell had struggled massively without his former offensive coordinator.

Acho used vivid comparisons to underline his view of Campbell without Johnson:

"Dan Campbell without Ben Johnson is nothing. [..] It's a fish without gills—it's a bird without wings—it's a lion without teeth. You know what I mean? There's nothing; it's a wrap.”

Acho also argued that Detroit’s run as an exciting, legitimate football team ended when Johnson departed from the franchise.

The Lions entered the season hoping to regain their previous offensive identity, but Acho believes Johnson’s absence has exposed problems in how Campbell utilizes Detroit’s talented roster.

The Lions head coach was urged to utilize Detroit’s other offensive weapons

Emmanuel Acho also urged Dan Campbell to involve Detroit’s other offensive weapons. He acknowledged Jahmyr Gibbs’ ability but argued that the running back should not dominate the offense.

Acho specifically named Jameson Williams, Amon-Ra St. Brown and Sam LaPorta. He believes Campbell can feature Gibbs while giving those players more opportunities:

“You have other players besides Jahmyr Gibbs. Use them. You have Jameson Williams, you have Amon-Ra St. Brown, you have LaPorta. Gibbs is a dawg, feature him, but use your other individuals as well. Please!”

This blunt assessment gives Campbell another area to address as Detroit looks to rebound in Week 3 when they host the New York Jets.
