Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell has publicly addressed the ongoing situation involving cornerback Terrion Arnold for the first time. Arnold's name recently surfaced during an investigation into an alleged armed robbery and kidnapping in Florida. 

The Detroit News reported that Campbell said the Lions are trusting Arnold as they continue monitoring the situation.

“I mean, until something happens, I feel like we're going to be good here,” Campbell said at the NFL’s annual league meeting. “I'm going to trust what the kid said that we're all right.”

Arnold's name appeared in text messages obtained by The Detroit News. He was not a sender or recipient in those conversations. His attorney, R. Timothy Jansen, has also said he does "not anticipate that any charges will be brought against him."

Campbell made it clear that the organization has not seen evidence linking Arnold to the alleged crimes.

"We got all the information that says he wasn't involved. That's what we know, that's all we know, and I mean, that's really all I can say," Campbell said. "We're monitoring what's out there — I mean, as of a month ago, this was nothing."

The Lions also added several defensive backs this offseason. Campbell insisted those moves were unrelated to Arnold's situation.

"Getting Rock back was big for us. Now, (Arnold's situation isn't) why. ... That wasn't the thought," Campbell said.

Detroit signed Rock Ya-Sin, Roger McCreary, and Christian Izien to strengthen its secondary. Campbell said the position always requires quality depth, regardless of Arnold's status.

According to a report by A to Z Sports, Detroit's secondary may be better equipped than many fans believe.

The report noted Arnold was never guaranteed a starting job this season. While he remained a leading candidate, he still had to earn the role during training camp.

Detroit also has experienced depth options available. Ya-Sin started games for the Lions last season, while McCreary and Izien provide additional flexibility in the secondary.

There is also ongoing speculation around Brian Branch and Kerby Joseph. As Branch continues progressing from his Achilles injury, there is a possibility of him returning in Week 1 for the Lions. On the other hand, no credible report has ruled Joseph out for Week 1.

The Lions also believe they have one of the NFL's deepest safety groups. Veterans Chuck Clark and Avonte Maddox add experience alongside Thomas Harper and Izien. 

For now, Campbell's message remains straightforward. The Lions will continue gathering information, but they are standing behind Arnold until more information becomes available.
